The mission of African American Leadership Institute (AALI) is to inform, connect, and inspire action to ensure the voice and presence of the Black community is integral to enhancing the vibrancy of the Greater Austin community.

INFORM

Expose Fellows to the history and culture of Austin’s Black community to better understand issues of Black flight and creating a culture intended to retain Black leaders in Greater Austin.

connect

Identify diverse Black leaders and expose them to other community leaders and professional, civic, and social engagement opportunities to develop personal connections and networks.

Activate

Engage Fellows in community-based issues to drive policy/systems change, hands-on community engagement, and AALI program sustainability.

ABOUT THE FELLOWS PROGRAM

The AALI Fellows program is an issues-based leadership experience rooted in the Greater Austin region. Black leaders explore real issues that impact our community, and look at how systemic inequities shape those areas.

Fellows deepen their understanding of leadership and their ability to drive meaningful change where they live and lead. Fellows learn civic leadership skills such as dialogue across differences, facilitative leadership, personal mastery, advocacy and systems thinking.
