The mission of African American Leadership Institute (AALI) is to develop, connect, and activate African American leaders — building the talent pipeline that strengthens Greater Austin's economy, institutions, and civic life.

INFORM

Ground Fellows in Austin's history and community landscape to understand the talent retention dynamics shaping Central Texas — and how leaders can build the conditions for long-term professional growth and impact.

connect

Identify diverse Black leaders and expose them to other community leaders and professional, civic, and social engagement opportunities to develop personal connections and networks.

Activate

Engage Fellows in community-based issues to drive policy impact and systems improvement, hands-on community engagement, and AALI program sustainability.

ABOUT THE FELLOWS PROGRAM

The AALI Fellows program is an issues-based leadership experience rooted in the Greater Austin region. Fellows examine the real civic, economic, and policy challenges facing Greater Austin and develop the expertise to drive measurable solutions.

Fellows deepen their understanding of leadership and their ability to drive meaningful change where they live and lead. Fellows learn civic leadership skills such as dialogue across differences, facilitative leadership, personal mastery, advocacy and systems thinking.
